As the days cool and the nights grow longer, the leaves of the native eastern maples transform from greens to brilliant golds and reds. Now the visitors come to enjoy the warm colors of the dying leaves, the last vestige of brightness before bare branches mark the transition from autumn to winter. Half-a-year will pass before the green comes again. Yet as the magic of the October color disappears, the beauty of the stark forest remains.
