Pholiota malicola  — Strophariaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Convex cap maturing to nearly planar or umbonate, slimy to sticky when fresh, yellow hue, darkening, sometimes with olive green, smooth, fibers or scales often present at margin. Gills attached, close, whitish aging to brownish-yellow or rusty, with whitish to yellow partial veil that disappears. Tall stalk, equal, pale yellow, aging brownish from the base up, ring zone, fibrillose. Bright yellow veil forming slight ring on stalk. Saprophytic.
 
Habitat:
Clusters on rotting hardwoods, sometimes conifers.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Rusty Brown

Season: Autumn
