Medium to large mushroom. Convex cap, with center depression, aging to broadly funnel-shaped, dry, slightly woolly, whitish, with stains common, margin smooth. Gills close to crowded, attached to decurrent, white to creamy, staining. Stalk thick, tough, equal, or tapering towards base, whitish or sometimes stained. Mycorrhizal.

Habitat: Solitary to scattered, groups or troops, terrestrial, coniferous forest.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: White to pale cream

Season: Autumn
