If the red and gold leaves left any doubt about the arrival of autumn, the staff and volunteers at the University of Minnesota Arboretum welcome it with displays of warmly-colored pumpkins and squashes creatively presented with dried plants. The stream of visitors, enjoying the autumn displays, take photos, visit the café, and stroll the gardens, still vibrant with color. Animals and plants alike seem determined to challenge the grayness of the inevitable winter to come. And on a sunny day, the reality of snow and cold seem very distant! This is the time of harvest, when traditions are celebrated beneath a warm Midwestern sun.
