Laccaria tortilis  — Twisted Deceiver — Hydnangiaceae


Small mushroom. Cap convex, becoming plane, depressed at the center, deeply striate from margin to near center; surface dry, light orange-brown when fresh, drying darker. Gills broadly attached, thick, well-spaced, whitish becoming a pale creamy-brown. Stalk slender, more or less equal, scruffy on the surface, tough and fibrous, colored as the cap. Mycorrhizal.

Habitat:  In small to large groups in conifer woods. 

Scent: Mild

Spores: White

Season: Autumn
