Cortinarius californicus — California Cortinarius — Cortinariaceae


 
Small to medium mushroom. Conical cap, aging to umbonate; surface smooth, dry, dark rusty-red, becoming paler as it dries. Stalk tall and slender, paler than the cap, with a sparse zone of dark fibers above. Gills, attached to stalk, colored as the cap. Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat: In small groups under Douglas-fir.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Rusty-brown

Season: Autumn
