Cortinarius brunneus — Cortinariaceae


Medium to large mushroom. Conical cap soon convex as it expands, smooth; warm brown. Stalk light brown, darkening in age. Attached gills, well-separated, brown. Cortina leaves conspicuous fibers on stalk. Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat: In small groups, in Douglas-fir and Western hemlock forests; also with Sitka spruce.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Rusty-brown

Season: Autumn
