Cantharellus formosus — Golden Chanterelle — Cantharellaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Beautiful bright orange to orange-yellow cap, convex with inrolled margin, expanding to convex or flat with wavy margin, velvety to bald surface False gills run down the stalk, pale orange to pink. Stalk tapering downwards, color as with cap or paler, bruising yellow to brown near base. Stalk yellow beneath with reddish covering, yellow at base. Mycorrhizal


Habitat: Solitary or small groups, coniferous forest, particularly Douglas-fir

Scent: Somewhat sweet

Spores: Whitish to pale yellow

Season: Autumn
