Xerocomellus atropurpureus —  Boletaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Brown to blackish-brown cap, velvety or smooth, whitish bloom when young, sometimes bruising blue. Pallid small pores, often bruising blue. Stalk yellow beneath with reddish covering, yellow at base. Mycorrhizal.


Habitat: Solitary or small groups, coniferous forest, particularly Douglas-fir

Scent: Pungent

Spores: Olive-brown

Season: Autumn to early Winter
