Tylopilus pseudoscaber — Dusky Bolete — Boletaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Dark brown to black velvety cap, often with pale margin, cracks with age. Blackish pores and tubes. Stalk dark brown with whitish base that can smell of chlorine, staining bluish-green, then brown. Mycorrhizal.

Synonym: Porphyrellus porphyrosporus

Habitat: Solitary or small groups, coniferous forest

Scent: Pungent

Spores: Dark reddish-brown

Season: Autumn
