Boletus subtomentosus — Boring Brown Bolete — Boletaceae


Medium to large mushroom. Yellow-brown to dull brown cap convex to plane, surface slightly velvety, smooth and reddish with age, sometimes with reddish cracks. Large pale yellow pores darken with age, retain color when bruised. Stalk tapered or uniform, smooth to roughened, yellow to buff, stained brown, netlike marks near apex. Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat:
Solitary or small groups, forest settings.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Olive-brown

Season: Summer to autumn
