Boletus mirabilis — Admirable Bolete — Boletaceae


Medium to large mushroom. Dark reddish to dark brown cap, convex to plane, roughened by small scales, giving it the texture of a towel. Large pale yellow pores darken with age, retain color when bruised. Stalk swollen at base, reddish to dark brown, sometimes with streaks and ridges, netlike marks near apex. Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat: Solitary or small groups, typically on rotting conifers, particularly western hemlock.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Olive-brown

Season: Summer to autumn
