Amanita vaginata — Grisette — Amanitaceae


Small-to-medium mushroom.  Oval cap becoming convex and flat with age, sometimes with small umbo; grayish, margin grooved, white patches, viscid when wet. Whitish gills free or attached, crowded. Ring skirtlike, whitish. Slender white stalk taller than cap diameter, often with grayish to grayish-brown thin scales.  Membranous universal veil that covers stalk, volva lobed and detached.  Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat:
Solitary or several. Coniferous forest.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: White

Season: Summer to autumn
