Medium-size, striking mushroom. Hemispheric cap brown to yellowish-brown, warts present; cap flattens with age. Ring skirtlike, persistent. Lower base of stalk colored with yellow veil remnants when young. Stalk as tall as cap diameter, thick, tapering at top. Universal veil, forming volva at base of stalk. Gills free, crowded, whitish to pale yellow; short gills also present. Mycorrhizal.
