Albatrellus avellaneus — Albatrellaceae


Medium-size Polypore fungus. White to orangish surface, sometimes with pink, darkening with age. Cap convex to depressed in center. Scales or fibrils on older caps. Decurrent tubes, white, staining yellow to orange. Stalk whitish above, brownish near base, staining darker. Pore surface white, maturing to pale brown. Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat: Often in dense clusters, grows on soil, wood beneath Western hemlock, Sitka spruce. Primarily coastal.

Scent: Not distinctive

Season: Autumn
